What do you do with a pastor who finds retirement challenging? You bring her back to a congregation. In April, the Rev. Dr. Carol Jeunnette returned to be the pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Burlington.
Pastor Carol thinks congregations are fascinating creatures, and has worked with a number of them during her 30-plus years of ministry. She began her ministry outside of Chicago. In the years since then she served congregations in New Mexico, Colorado, New Hampshire and Wisconsin.
Ordained ministry is a second career. Over a decade after receiving a degree in music education (Wheaton College) she completed a Master’s of Divinity at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. She has earned a Masters in Counseling (University of New Mexico) and a Ph.D. in pastoral theology (Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver). She and a colleague have co-authored a book, to be published by Fortress Press, in spring, 2026: Family Systems in Ministry: Growing Hope at Peace.
Pastor Carol and her husband, John, have two adult sons, a daughter in-law, and three grandsons. They enjoy time with family, traveling and British police dramas. A couple nights a week, you’ll find Carol in rehearsals with community bands, still trying to learn her newest and most difficult musical love, the oboe.
In the coming months, Pastor Carol and Peace Lutheran are planning workshops and classes on “Being Different Together,” and “What Does It Mean to be a Christian?”, and “Theological Wrestlemania.” You are cordially invited to join us for worship, conversation and fellowship as we continue to “Grow in Peace.”
